Mansion on the Hill. (#3)

At the Governor's Residence at the Boettcher Mansion:

From my novel A Western Capitol Hill:

From the deck of the Governor’s Mansion, Gutierrez scans the darkening horizon, the zigzagging highways, the houses lit up all the way to the foothills.

A train trumpets as if it’s auditioning the theme song for an upcoming James Bond movie.

Mansion On The Hill. (#1)

Statuesque -- and, at times, spooky-looking -- mansion at the corner of 12th and Pennsylvania. The kind of place where a character in A Western Capitol Hill might leave a severed head on one of the fence posts.

Here's another photo of the mansion (Judge Benedict's house) taken in 1899. Thanks Denver Public Library: what a great collection of photos you have online thanks to your Western History & Geneology department.
