Ballad of East Colfax.

Looking for music to listen to while reading my novel A Western Capitol Hill? This track "Washington Ballet" by Mishka Shubaly (photo above) comes highly recommended; if the book made its own tunes tape, it would include this song. Although it might not be evident from its title, Shubaly's number contains a classic mention of East Colfax Avenue:

I'm living in the coldest room in Denver
On the longest street in the U.S.A.

Yes, East Colfax is known, in all its seediness, as America's longest street.

And Mishka Shubaly is known as a brooding, talented lyricist. The mood of angered heartbreak in his song fits the mindset of my book's main character, quite well.

Here's to East Colfax ballads and balladeers.
